Precious yarns since 1800
Ballantyne is a name linked to precious yarns since the 1800s, when the Scottish Henry Ballantyne imposed himself in the tweed trade and tartan workmanship that began to be known and appreciated even in their softer variations. In 1829, in fact, the Scottish Tweed trade dates back to being characterized by work focused on the study of new designs. The birth of D. Ballantyne Brothers & Co. Ltd took place in 1921, when the parallel activities carried out by the sons of that first founder came together under one name. The fame of the name Ballantyne became more and more important, reaching an incredible fame in the Fifties, thanks to the inlay technique and the development of the iconic argyle motif, worn by celebrities and exponents of the nobility. The company had a specific purpose: to create high quality cashmere knitwear to position itself among the finest productions on a worldwide scale. |
